Thursday Thirteen #27

Kaze's Thirteen Tips on Home Decorating

1. Tags are a very underutilized decorative item. They come in many sizes, shapes, colors, thicknesses, etc. One of my favorite ways to freshen up a floor is to leave a few tags there (with or without plastic attached).

2. Food wrappers can also be colorful and add a sense of "flavor" to any room. Picking them from the silver toy bin (aka trash can) can be difficult as it has a lid. I say wait until a wrapper is left on the counter then jump up to retrieve it.

3. Cardboard is a staple in home decorating! Primarily boxes can be scattered about to create different levels and cubbies for your guests to enjoy and possibly hide in if they are afraid.

4. Recycling papers/cardboard strips can be a difficult medium to work with but the right piece goes a long way, especially shoved under furniture like the book shelf.

5. For the advanced among you I suggest checking the bathroom for some lovely items left behind by the female members of your household usually about once a month. These little rolls of fun should be used sparingly but loosing them in the middle of the night or bringing them downstairs as gifts to guests is SURE to make your Lap Lady blush.

6. If you're looking for a festive touch try destroying a sparkle ball. They are bright and light so they are easy to spread and dig into the carpet fibers. Your humans will thank you for months in the future!

7. Don't forget to ALWAYS sprinkle your food tidbits all over the kitchen floor and on the walls. You can create a mosaic and really show your artistic flare!

8. Litter is the easiest and most widely known about medium. I find crystals pack the most color and crunch but other litter will do as well. Spread a thin layer over floor surface (I suggest the kitchen) and make sure its in a spot the People will have to travel through- especially barefoot.

9. Bags (like boxes) should be strewn about and can be great for your guests. Be careful around plastic bags but they can be quite fun but only use adult supervision while decorating with these items. Paper bags with handles work very well as storage devices. Keep bits of trash in them (like egg shells) or hide yourself so you can terrify the People.

10. Fur. Need I say more? Sprinkle it everywhere! It is better if you have more than one color fur so it doesn't blend in with anything. Ask help from siblings for this one.

11. Yak-art. You know we all do it, some better than others. The objective here is quantity, not quality. Watery ones that soak into carpets are best but a dried crusty pile is not something to be ignored. Just make sure your yak will stain the carpet otherwise you'll have to repeat.

12. Use what you've got! Those claws aren't just for itches, use them to spice up the curtains and furniture. Add your own pizazz and flare to the bedspread/couch/rug- whatever!

13. Finally, my best advice is to just be yourself! Don't be afraid to experiment in any medium at your finger tips. You don't like tags? Try cotton balls or wads of tin foil- just make sure to express your feline nature. After all, who spends the most time in your house anyway??

Wow, those are great decorating tips, Kaze! :) Thanks for the advice. The piece of advice concerning fur won't work for me, but the rest all sound terrific!

Kaze,

I hate the temperature taking thing at the V-E-T. But my mom does have my back because she always asks the techs if they can take it in my ear like they do for human kids. ;) They always say no, though. :(
