A message from the Lap Lady

I'm letting the Lap Lady write a message about Latte here. Its his first birthday so I wanted to help out anyway I could!

I never thought I would see this birthday. In honor of my little Sugar Bear I figured I'd tell his little biography thus far in life. My DH was always a big fan of 1 cat (of course now we have 3 ) but a few days before my 24th birthday he finally relented and said we could get a kitten, my first ever, and a meezer at that! Being naive (obviously we've learned) we looked in the paper and found a litter of siamese kittens about 2 hours away from us. We got in the car and drove on up there. Momma kitty, her name is Thai, greeted us at the door and she was the prettiest dark seal and very petite. She took us over to her kittens and was very proud to show off. The woman picked up one kitten and handed him to me and handed another to my DH. The one my DH was holding started meowing very loudly and was quite a little active pistol. Of course, he had to be ours. Chase is a very active kitty and we wanted him to have a playmate. 2 miles down the road my DH named him Latte. The little guy didn't make a peep on the ride home though he was swimming in the carrier. He was 9 weeks old, obviously too young, but what did I know then? I feel in love with him immediately and he just loved climbing me.

Latte was my Christmas present so all I got for Christmas was a bunch of cat toys. Yeah, I wasn't too sad about that! He and Chase hit it off very quickly and played and snuggled together all the time. He was a little mom's boy and when I went to the gym he would cry for me.

Latte got neutered when he was 5 months old and I thought that was the end of his torture for a while. In late february he became lame. He limped on his right hind and we though he just took a fall and would be OK. Off to the vet he went and after many sleepless nights (us and the vet's) and a very expensive bone biopsy it was determined that his bone was infected.

The poor little guy had such a hard time and was in horrible pain. I spent countless hours in his isolation room with him. But being a meezer he obviously was tenatious enough to pull his sutures out 3 times. (I have more pictures but blogger doesn't want me to post them :( )

Once he was free of the cones and the 6 weeks of Clavamox and a miracle of healing....Something else happened. His head started to tilt. The vets thought this was worse than the last ordeal and wanted to do an MRI. But the vet didn't want to put him through anymore of this (by this time the whole office was in love with him) and decided to try treatment. He passed all neurological exams and it ended up being a protozoal infection of his spine. Again, he healed. This little kitten has amazed me so many times. He has such spirit and is just a little darling. He is Chase's best buddy and now Kaze's too. And while he isn't too fond of being touched or held these days, he is still the cutest little bugger of the whole bunch.

Last night I swear he knew something special was going on. He snuggled with me (and of course snuggle hog Kaze) all night. He even brought his fuzzy ball with feathers into bed and I didn't yell at him when he munched on the velcro. Latte was purring a lot last night too. This moring he got a whole can of wet food to himself though he did need the clean up crew (Kaze) to help out. I love my little Latte more than I though possible and he is always watching over me even when I don't know!

awww, what a wonderful story. Poor Latte, it may take him some time to get back to being snuggly after all he has been through.

A heart touching story. Latte, I'm glad everything worked out okay. Thanks for sharing.

I know all about pain. I was mauled very badly by a huge dog when I was about your age and couldn't walk for a long time. I owe my life to my human dad. Glad you have wonderful beans too.
